The tragedy in Romeo and Juliet
Exposé - Littérature - 8 pages - Format Microsoft Word
Written in 1595 by W. Shakespeare under the reign of Elizabeth 1st, Romeo and Juliet can be defined as a tragic play in a way that we traduce the tragedy as a dramatic work representing illustrious persons struggling against family conflicts and an exceptional and unfortunate fate. Well before W. Shakespeare, Italian or English poets bent over the shroud of two tragic lovers, whom love was born in the heart of the hatred. But only W. Shakespeare chooses to evoke this extreme hatred to denounce it better and to regret its consequences. So he uses the actual story of families of Verona as the nest of a love become mythical. The movement between the dramatic styles, epic and intimate dramas, tragedies and comedies, spectacles and recitatives, confers to the play the necessary tension to the mythical lover’s drama.
