British Decolonization (David McIntyre)
Fiche de lecture - Anglais - 7 pages - Format Microsoft Word
A little more than three hundred years after the first territories had been conquered by the British, on June 8th, 1946, a Victory Parade was held in London, gathering representants from all British colonies, dominions or close allies. At the time, the British Empire was at the largest of its territorial expansion, though some dominions were already self-ruling and others aspired to it. However, trade treaties were concluded between these countries and Britain. But this spirit of festivity would not last long since in the following years many of these countries would reach independence. The world “decolonization” would thus be considered on different levels (political, economic and social), and, in all cases, it never happened the way and the time the British wanted it to happen.
