For several years now, geographers and demographers have studied and taken interest in the demographic evolution of post industrial Europe, that is, in most of the countries in the actual European Union of fifteen. But it is only since a little while that the Europeans and their governments really started to realise and to brainstorm about what the consequences of a sudden demographic evolution could be. Indeed, one cannot but seriously ask oneself if the demographic evolution of post industrial Europe will create problems for its future and, if so, what they will be and how they will be dealt with.
