The Cognis Group, headquartered in Düsseldorf, ranks among the world leaders in specialty chemicals. It recorded sales of 3.1 billion euros in 2001 and an operating profit of 174 million euros. Cognis employs some 9,100 people and operates production and service centres in close to 50 countries on all five continents.
The Cognis Group was established in August 1999 as a carve-out of the Chemical Products business of Henkel KGaA. On November 30, 2001, the investors the Permira Funds, GS Capital Partners and Schroder Ventures Life Sciences Funds acquired Cognis from Henkel. (...)
