In 1998, Prudential the second insurance Group in Great Britain launched Egg. It was one of the first on line bank in the world. Six months after its launching, Egg reached its objectives with 500 000 customers.
In June 2000 Egg entered the English stock exchange and became profitable in November 2001. Today, egg has 2.4 million customers in England and employs 2200 employees. It is a real success story in England.
At the same time the French Group LVMH tried to launch in France an on line bank : It’s name was Zebank. Unfortunately, the bank didn’t work. It has spend millions in communication but never became profitable. This is certainly because it was too early for French mentalities.
In may 2002, Egg decided to enter the French market. Zebank was nearly bankrupt. Egg saw an opportunity to begin in France with Zebank’s structure. Egg bought Zebank for 5 million euros : Zebank died and became Egg France. (...)
