Slavery was established in the American colonies in the XVIth century and was abolished only 3 centuries later, in 1865, at the end of the Civil War.
The Civil War had lasted from 1861 to 1865 and had opposed the North, which was in favour of the abolition of slavery, to the South, which needed slavery because the basis of its economy was agriculture (there were huge cotton plantations).
