We will present to you the Charter of Fundamental Rights in Europe and the Convention for the Protection of Human life. We will, throughout the presentation, discuss what these two texts have in common, what distinguishes them and what the main challenges are today for the Convention and the Charter.
The question that we will try to answer is the following: All member states of the European Union have ratified the Convention of the Council of Europe. Nevertheless the Charter was elaborated for the countries of the EU and has mainly the same goals as the Convention. So what precisely distinguishes the two texts and in what relation do they stand to one another ?
