Since ten years, until the withdrawal of the immigration's policies limiting the Asian immigration, we can notice a sharp increase among this population in the United States. So, the residents of Asian origin, who were among 1,4 millions in 1965, which is less than 1 % of the population of the United States, are now about 11,9 millions in 2000, and represents 4,2 % of the population.
Today, many Asian-Americans occupy offices of power or prestige and the image of the model minority is fashionable. Indeed, towards their previous marginalization, the status of this group in the American national representations knew a spectacular change.
However, even if the American society is characterized by its multi-ethnic character, by a strong spatial mobility and by a standard of living among the highest of the planet. It is always affected by important social and ethnic splits.
To encircle this evolution, we shall land at first, the policies of immigration in the United States and the Asian immigration history, then, their integration in the American society.
