Right to vote and democracy : a criticism

Although this title might seem a little provocative, as democracy and the right to vote are almost considered as fundamental freedoms, I mean it totally seriously, and I am to explain why. However, my knowledge and experience being very limited to France, it will be the same for my examples. Yet I think every single thing I am to write must as well be true for any other democratic country.
