Anti-Americanism is not a recent thing, but it has got stronger after the end of the USSR, since the US has become the unique superpower in the world. Recently, the unpopularity of the US both within and outside America has grown more powerful. It is partly due to the US being an unrivalled economic and military power, and also to the policies pursued by the administration of President Bush, which created hostility. But criticism to the US is sometimes exaggerated and paradoxical, so that the tendency to believe the worst about the US in every case could itself be considered as a symptom of anti-Americanism.
